In the interest of longevity, I propose that we get out of this Black Bayou niche of stat maxes being in the 12-15 area. Seeing as how some chaarcters are starting with 12's in some stats already, I think we should cap out in the 18-20 range.
The reason for this is that it puts a higher cap on things which makes maxing out stats a more long-term goal than it is currently. Really a higher cap doesn't hurt anyone, because the same levels are attainable by anyone. It just leaves more room for growth.
We can make raising stats above 15 very expensive to discourage players from just dumping all their points into body, mind, and soul without worrying about skills.March 18, 2006 at 2:39 pm #2485
True, the only reason it is this way now was because I kinda wanted to throw a limit on skills specialties and whatnot. Some things to consider for raising the stat caps:
1) TN's for masteries will shift
2) General TN's will shift higher to compensate for the curve.
3) Characters who sink their points in one stat are going to find themselves FUCKED when someone hits them with a Psi Blast or Soul Drain, since you can DIE from them.
If someone wants to start with a 12 Body 2 Mind 2 Soul and die the first time they piss of a Psion or Magi, heh.. that's their own burden imo. They will learn the next time. It's not an issue now, but it will become one soon enough when more Magi and Psions come about, not to mention other breeds that will be able to do various forms of damage.March 19, 2006 at 8:40 am #2486
one of the inherent traps in the system is that it is much easier for a person to start with 12 body and then spend XP to get their Mind and Soul to a decent level than to start with them all at a decent level and then get to 12 body. it is more effective XP-wise to make one stat as high as possible and then raise the others ASAP. Players definitely see this, and many of them do it. Especially now because tehre are practically no psions or magi around, they have time to raise their mind and soul stats in the mean time.
I am not even saying tehre is anything wrogn with what they are doing, because I don't think it's abusing the system. In a way they are just using common sense.
I say higher caps becasue it doesn't make sense that someone can start at basically the height of mortal physical, mental, or spiritual performance. Again, it also increases the longevity of useful XP gain for characters. I see medium to high stats being able to hti pretty much any normal TN for a mastery or something, and the really high stats only coming into play for sheet vs sheet stuff. PC vs NPC, PC vs PC, etc. The higher stats are really for that aspect of the game mroe than for the core of the game. Sure, we could have hgiher TNs for mroe amazing feats, but the TNs as they are wouldn't need to change much, because players are still going to reach the point of hitting those TNs the same time they would if we didn't have hgiher caps.
I think staying with 12 for now until we take a look at it is good, but we should definitely look at moving passed these, and icnreasing the caps for all breeds. Even if it is like one day a few months from now we announce that the stat caps have all raised by 2 or something.March 19, 2006 at 7:48 pm #2487
Certainly, and I agree. There will be methods of raising stat caps, some of the breed leaders positions will allow for it as follows:
Progenitor (NPC Only): +4 Body, Mind, Soul
Elder (Breed Leader): +2 Body, Mind, Soul
Seneschals (Two people under each Breed Leader): +1 Body, Mind, Soul
I'm also thinking about some general masteries from some of the Supernatural Breeds that will permanently raise their caps due to strength and all that. Not sure on that though, just an idea I am mulling over. I'm wanting to go back to a 14 cap (the original before I changed it recently) and probably will soon.March 21, 2006 at 8:17 am #2488
I agree with the 14 stat cap thing.
I think we should take a look at the stats we are giving NPC's and that sort of thing as well, to adjust for hgiher caps.March 21, 2006 at 9:24 pm #2489
I put up a poll in the Rules Suggestions folder for all of that. So we can get some player input as well.March 22, 2006 at 6:30 am #2490
My vote was for higher costs to stats, skill costs are fine, and higher stat caps.
